Roadmap Or Hike To a Painting™

Hike To A Painting - Morning After Monsoon At Grand Canyon

As I shared in a recent BLOG post, the Grand Canyon has always held a poignant spot in my heart.  This painting was done during one of my first Plein Air painting trips to the Canyon.  We stayed at the El Tovar on the South Rim, a bucket list experience all by itself.  This was a Fred Harvey Hotel, and is an unbelievable property.  The hotel blends comfort, for a National Park Lodge, with an unparalleled feeling of nostalgia.  Especially for an artist, throughout the area there are original works by Thomas Moran, Gunnar Widforss and others.  The day I painted this piece, dawned with a beautiful crisp morning.  Sunrise was at around 5:30 AM and I was out at around 5:00 to hike and find a spot to paint.

If you are reading my Blog, you know that I use the All Trails app to choose a trail.  Just download the app and it will provide highly interactive maps of trails. You can search by area and it rates difficulty, etc. You may want check it out.
