Hike To A Painting - If those Cliffs Could Talk
If Those Cliffs Could Talk, Oil on Linen, 16 x 20 in.
This is a great example of the experience you can have, Day Pack Painting in Norther New Mexico. The scene captures a cliff face in the famous Ghost Ranch area, and the title was inspired by a book called Ladies of The Canyon by Leslie Pollard. This book shares stories of amazing women in the early 1900's, who traveled to and lived in the Southwest and particularly New Mexico. One of those women was Carol Bishop Stanley, who's husband won Ghost Ranch in at poker game. Later, when they divorced, she got Ghost Ranch and created the organization that still operates today. Prior to all of that, there was a notorious family of cattle thieves that would herd stolen herds into the area and it was notorious as a place to avoid in the late 1800's. So you get the idea, those cliffs would have a lot of stories.
The picture of me painting is just North and West of Ghost Ranch, off of Monastery Road. More recently, I have become much more focused on using the All Trails App, which maps trails and tells you how to get there. However, this was an unmarked trail South and West of Monastery R
